Audition Information for WPG Academy! (Audition Dates at Bottom of Page)

Whether you are planning to apply as an individual/soloist or an existing chamber group (duo, trio, quartet), this year's process is exactly the same! You will need to submit a 10-15 minute free choice video submission. We have left the process free for you to showcase your skills on any instrument you like. Try and be as versatile as possible and demonstrate as many skills as you possess, along with any unique percussive talents. You are free to submit a variety of the official WPG Ensemble Excerpts should you wish, but we recommend free choice programme with as unique skills and performances as possible.

If you want to apply as an existing chamber group and are already in a duo, trio or quartet, you can submit a balanced 10-15 minute free-choice programme. Remember to try something a little creative, unique, or virtuosic... your chance to shine!

There will be no audition fee for the 2024 WPG Academy!

You can watch the video below to see several options from the Maraca2 Duo that would be suitable for the audition video for ensemble applicants! These are not mandatory.

The following options are the "audition excerpts" that were used in past versions of WPG as audition guidelines but are NOT REQUIRED FOR 2024:

Blue Motion by Stephen Whibley (Bars 35-56) - 5 Octave Marimba + Bass Drum.
Ykjur Arr. by Maraca2 (Bars 228-284) - 4 1/3 Octave Marimba + Hi-Hats.
Zephyr by Stephen Whibley (Bars 109-132) - Vibraphone
Pulse & Rhythm Etude by Maraca2. - Snare Drum

The following information is a step-by-step guide to auditioning for the World Percussion Group. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to email us from our 'Contact Us' page.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be between 18-32 years old at time of application
Applicants may apply as a soloist/ensemble percussionist or as part of an existing ensemble (duo, trio, quartet)
Applicants must have access to: High Speed Internet Connection.
High quality audio recording facilities.
High quality webcam or DSLR camera to partake in online sessions.
Due to the nature of the Academy you will be required to prepare and record some materials before the actual tour starts. The schedule is somewhat flexible to allow you to take part around your pre-existing commitments. Attendance in full is not mandatory however is recommended. Garrett Mendelow sessions are compulsory.

SOLO APPLICATION:

Visit www.worldpercussiongroup.com.
Click the 'Apply Now' tab.
Select the relevant application (e.g. 'SOLOIST' for individual applicant).
Enter any information required in the box fields.
There will be NO application fee.
Once your application has been submitted, you will be able to upload your video. (This can take up to 24 hours).
Upload your video to Youtube/Vimeo (approximately 10-15 minutes of length). We advise a balanced programme and also accept short excerpts on an array of instruments.
Provide us with the YouTube / Vimeo link / Dropbox link.
Upload your CV/Resume.
Upload a high-resolution photo for promotion on the tour.
Click 'Submit my application'.
That's it! You're done! We will review your application in due course and let you know the result of your application.
As an extra perk, you can click on 'Audition Materials'. Although this is not part of the Soloist or a required part of the Ensemble application, you may find it interesting to watch our video tutorials and audition material that the ensemble applicants have the option of submitting!

ENSEMBLE / PRE-EXISTING CHAMBER GROUP APPLICATION: (apply as an individual, duo, trio, quartet)

Select the relevant application (e.g. 'ENSEMBLE / PRE-EXISTING CHAMBER GROUP').
Enter any information required in the box fields.
There will be NO application fee
Once your payment has processed you will be able to upload your video. (This can take up to 24 hours).
Upload your video to Youtube/Vimeo (free choice approximately 10-15 minutes of length). We advise a balanced programme. Ensemble members can submit official excerpts should you wish, but a free choice program is recommended (PDF Pack, Mp3 backing tracks and tutorial videos).
Provide us with the YouTube / Vimeo link / Dropbox link.
Upload your CV/Resume.
Upload a high-resolution photo for promotion on the tour.
Click 'Submit my application'.
That's it! You're done! We will review your application in due course and let you know the result of your application.
